It's an interesting one as I appreciate my room being cleaned daily, but certainly have times where I leave the DND sign on all the time so I don't worry that much. But it is a big move on from COVID where cleanliness was so critical. I presumed that luxury brands should have daily turn-down service as well (which sounds a bit like "tidying" if I am honest), bring back the chocolate on the pillow.
However, I feel that this is an own goal by Marriott as cleaning is an area where they can differentiate from AirBNB (who have had their recent issues with excessive cleaning fees), as a hotel has big efficiencies on hosts in cleaning multiple rooms. I also feel sorry for the cleaners, who will presumably take the massive hit from their own salaries by having far less work in the future (or the payrises that would have occurred to resolve labour shortages).
