Although refunded transactions do count toward minimum spend for AmEx SUBs, depending on the specifics of the refund AmEx may consider it “gaming”.

Agreed, aside from the fact that there’s no such thing as a “free lunch” 😉, it’s inefficient to put 1X spend on these cards for the sole purpose of “free” guest access.

Fortunately some of us use these cards for “large” purchases (>$5,000), including tax payments, which earn 1.5X.

Some of us have been lucky enough to receive targeted NLL Biz Plat offers and successfully apply for multiple accounts, sometimes every 3 months. Minimum spend on a new biz plat essentially earns 11-11.5X; $15,000 spend earns 15,000 - 22,500 MR plus 150,000 MR SUB. Guest lounge access is gravy, we would do the minimum spend regardless.
