I tried to arrange 3 months ago flying in J and I called to arrange a birthday surprise for my wife who is also flying with me. As our bookings are separate, they keep tell me its not possible as I'm not authorised to amend her booking. I'm not even trying to amend her booking, I simply told the agent please arrange some birthday surprise for her onboard, we will be seated next to one another. We ended up going to the plane with no birthday surprise. Dissapointing.
Sometimes some lateral thinking comes in handy! Maybe it's a product of living in SIngapore as a foreigner for so long. that I always try to navigate my way around the onslaught of "cannot"'s (
), but what I would have done:.
1) Call up and not mention your own booking at all. Just quote your wife's booking reference. They might trip you up on the pitch of your voice if you are not in a same-sex relationship , but who knows, some agents just want to establish validity of the credentials and not worry about the voice. Or alternatively get a female who is not your wife to call in, or
2) As you were on the same flight, just add the birthday surprise to your own booking, but mention it to the crew once on board that the surprise is for her and not for you/.
