Based on the first couple pages of this thread, it appears that the air passenger protection is a bit of a farce as almost all delays are coded as safety issues = no comp from the airline.
Check the credit card you used to book this flight - Does it have any sort of travel protection, travel interruption, travel cancellation? That may be a better use of your time. Hopefully you can provide an update whichever route you seek compensation.
