I paid the seat reservation fee, filed a claim for a refund and it was refunded the day I landed in Japan.
I am having this issue also - i'm flying on separate booking to Partner to from LHR via HEL to Singapore in the March. I'm BA Gold, they're BA Bronze but it only let's them select seats for free on the final HEL-LHR Leg. All the others are with fees. Online chat and calling Finnair they've told me that seat selection isn't free for Oneworld Ruby but none of this above makes sense. Will the above approach to claim a refund work? Did you file for refund as soon as you'd paid for it?
