IMO the lesson here is don’t fly avianca more than X hours where X equals whatever duration you are comfortable flying spirit. I fly spirit all the time between Chicago and LA for less than $100 round trip and it’s fine and totally worth it. But anything longer and I’m looking elsewhere.
