That's not how it worked for me further to my purchase.. A couple of weeks later Alan Boswell emailed me with a 7 digit code and the following instructions:-
How to use your Avios voucher code online- You will need your 7 digit unique Avios voucher code from above
- Go to www.aviosvouchers.com
- If you are already a British Airways Executive Club Member, please complete the member details so that your Avios can be added to your British Airways Executive Club account. If you are not already a member, then you will need to join the British Airways Executive Club in order to collect Avios. Links to join the British Airways Executive Club can be found here
- Enter your unique Avios voucher code
- Click the "Submit" button to proceed
