Machine should know.

I ask, because my spouse is still in limbo (as I was for weeks) with changing and conflicting messages on his TTP Dashboard.

Should he use the GE kiosk, which I understand might result in a "red X", or just use the CBP app instead? In other words, what happens if/when you get said "X"? Just go to longer line, or does it further complicate the process as an attempted immigration infraction?

Hard not to be paranoid with all of this inconsistency and confusion. (and recall it's not paranoia "when they really are out to get you!" Sometimes hard to know the difference, as has been amply illustrated here.)

Also hard to know which forum to post this query to. Our immediate concern is his NEXUS second renewal application, yet our next ppotential use will be the Global Entry aspect.

Any advice appreciated.
The moment you submit your renewal application while your existing membership is still valid, your existing Nexus membership including Global Entry benefits are all extended indefinitely (unofficially five years) to give them time to process it and for you to do any renewal interview (for the 20% of cases that require it). You can use your existing Nexus card, touch less Global Entry kiosks, etc while safely ignoring the expiration date on your card. Once you get and activate your new card your benefits continue as usual.
