Dazhong Transportation (Hong Kong) Limited

.
Today, I spoke to an island councilman: he told me that the St Regis had in fact been sold to a Hong Kong based company, so I looked further on what information was available on the web and found this piece:

Tahiti, January 5, 2022- The St Regis Bora Bora and Hilton Moorea Lagoon resort hotels are about to be acquired by Dazhong Transportation (Hong Kong) Limited. These sales will mark the withdrawal from Polynesia of the Chinese group Hainan.

Until now owned by HNA Tourism group company (subsidiary of the Hainan Airlines HNA group), the St Regis Bora Bora Resort, Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort hotels and the St Regis Bora Bora Eden Cruise shuttle company are about to open. be redeemed. The Polynesian competition authority (APC) has been notified of a proposed concentration which provides for “the takeover of total and exclusive control by the company Dazhong Transportation (Hong Kong) Limited, a foreign investor with no activity in French Polynesia .”

The APC also specifies that “this merger will have no impact on current management methods and franchise contracts concerning hotel establishments”. The deadline for filing observations with the APC is January 14, 2022.

The St Regis Bora Bora, a 5-star establishment managed by the Marriott group, opened its doors in June 2006 and has 90 units. The Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort, opened in 2000 and the only 5-star hotel on the sister island, offers 106 units. It came under the Hilton brand in 2009 after many years under the Sheraton Lagoon Resort & Spa name.

As a reminder, these establishments were bought in 2016 by the Hainan group from Louis Wane. The sale of its two establishments would therefore put an end to the presence of the Chinese group in Polynesia (see box).

Hainan Group

HNA tourism (HK) Group Co. Limited, the current owner of the two hotels, is a Hong Kong company, a 100% subsidiary of the Chinese company HNA Tourism Group Co. Limited, itself owned by the Chinese group HNA. The latter is a conglomerate founded in 1993, organized around different areas of activity, the main ones being tourism (HNA Tourisme), aviation (HNA Aviation), banking and financial services (HNA capital), logistics ( HNA Logistics) and private equity (HNA Holding)
.
Hainan's presence at fenua took shape in 2014, when Gaston Flosse, then president of French Polynesia, traveling to China, notably met the founder and president of the group Wang Jian as well as all the leaders of Hainan airlines. A strategic coordination agreement signed in Beijing by Edouard Fritch and Zhang Ling, president of HNA, followed in June 2015, as well as the completion of the acquisition of the St Regis Bora Bora Bora and Hilton Moorea hotels in 2016. A direct air service project between the China and French Polynesia had also emerged without ever seeing the light of day. Remember that the HNA group went from being a tourism giant to bankruptcy in just a few years. After the accidental death of its founder Wang Jian in July 2018, the conglomerate, which was already in difficulty,

" Polynesia | The Hilton Moorea and the Saint Régis acquired by Dazhong

Dazhong Transportation Limite" d, based in Hong Kong, has acquired the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Saint Régis Resort hotels in Bora Bora. The two hotel establishments, which are among the jewels of the Polynesian hotel industry, belonged to a Chinese investor from Hainan, the HNA company, which had itself bought them from the Wan group in 2016. The company, a hotel subsidiary of the group HNA, was declared bankrupt last year, and its two hotels had been looking for a buyer since 2017.

It specializes in transport and residential real estate. It also owns business hotels in mainland China and is also present in aquaculture in Hainan.

By becoming the owner of these two jewels of the Polynesian hotel industry, this company wishes to invest in the luxury hotel industry. This acquisition is the culmination of meetings initiated on July 11, 2019, when President Édouard Fritch received Yang Guo Ping, CEO of Dazhong, as President, in the presence of the Chinese consul.

Yang Guo Ping had expressed his interest in Polynesian tourism, and President Édouard Fritch had encouraged him to take an interest in the acquisition of the two hotels, the sale of which was advertised internationally. (…)Read more on Actu.fr "

Now, the question for us is: will Dazhong Transportation (Hong Kong) Limited invest in the hotel that really needs to be renovated and this has been true for a while?
