Of course, Hertz could have just charged the OPs card to avoid the issue. But for some bizarre reason they sometimes revert to the 1970’s paper invoicing process (see my first post). I could have been in the OP’s shoes if the USPS had misdelivered the letter or I had been on a foreign trip when the letter arrived. A well run company would likely have better processes to handle situations like this. But as is clear from the false accusations of car theft, Hertz isn’t a well run company and the OP should be grateful that they weren’t accused of theft or fraud.
