Unless the cabin is sold out, Alaska should be able to move the passenger to the desired flight. It may take a couple of days due to having to ask JAL to open up additional award space though. The Alaska rep that I had the pleasure of dealing with, she was an absolute delight.
Alaska completely refused to do anything since award availability was not available on JAL for the previous day's flight. Will call JAL next and see if they can help.
