I've still never seen an automated check-in at a hotel, but knowing what we do about how utterly horrible Accor is with their IT in general, I'm not sure I'd want to try it. At least, not at an Accor hotel. But on the other hand, given Accor also has a pretty bad reputation for inconsistency and delivery of benefits, maybe automating it isn't a bad idea at some hotels?
