Picked up this week from Hertz GCM. Had a 7 passenger "Special" Suzuki APV reserved; this is like a 7-passenger MPV vehicle. Upon arrival, I was assigned an ancient (2016?) Kia Grand Carnival. I asked about an upcharge to change into a Suburban and was quoted $30/day. After a bit of negotiation, we settled at $15/day extra. The truck itself is a 2020 with about 10K miles on it and pretty common rental wear (door dings, bumper scrapes, etc.) It's a base model with cloth seats but can't complain too much given that they normally ask $300/day for those or more during peak season.
A quick note for anyone coming across this thread looking to take advantage of car seats. Hertz GCM does have car seats available for rent. However, unlike in the US where seats can work in the rear-facing position for toddlers, the seats available at Hertz GCM are not rear-facing compatible. So you can only use them in a front-facing manner (with LATCH or belt). Given low island speeds and short distances traveled, this may be an acceptable risk for some. But, there is a company called "Tourin' Tots" which, for about the same price as Hertz will charge for the front-facing seat, will rent you (and even deliver to your hotel or condo) whatever seat you need (infant, toddler, booster, etc.). Just something to keep in mind.
Did you pay for liability insurance? If so, how much did they charge per day? Thanks.
