InterContinental Perth City Centre

InterContinental Perth City Centre

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 Double Beds Classic City View, received 2 Double Beds City View Lounge Access (lounge access was not provided, as is their right under the T&Cs, but otherwise considered a two-category upgrade. Basically a Club floor room on the highest floor)

How are the rooms?
On the smaller side but clean, functional and beautifully designed. Housekeeping and evening turndown were both excellent and on-time, something I find a lot of hotels in Australia / New Zealand are struggling with post-pandemic. Lack of international TV channels was a bit disappointing but TV is Chromecast-enabled and Wi-Fi is good.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A, didn't have access.

What was good and what was bad?
The Good
  • Good housekeeping service
  • Request for 10am check-in was honoured, really appreciated as we saw other guests having to wait until 3pm
  • Central location
  • Good breakfast buffet at Ascua, really friendly chefs and waitstaff
The Bad
  • Poor experience at Heno & Rey when we used our Ambassador F&B credit. Plenty of staff but tables were being left uncleared after previous guests had left. Server spilled sangria all over us. Poor ambience as all the plants had died and were not replaced. Was given the incorrect bill for about double what our bill should have been, lucky I checked.
  • When we went to organise late check-out the receptionist offered 2pm rather than the Ambassador guaranteed 4pm. We didn't need til 4pm so I didn't push it. He handed us the re-coded key cards but then grabbed them back to re-code a second time, saying he had mistakenly granted us Club lounge access. Mistakes happen but was poorly handled and was a bit embarrassing in front of other guests, we hadn't done anything wrong and he was making a scene to fix his own mistake. Made me feel like staff at this hotel are more worried about getting in trouble with management than about how their guests might feel.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Paid AUD $263/night. Still a reasonable experience overall and I would return, but certainly not at the impeccable standard it was in 2018.
