You have to add their KTN (Known Traveler Number) to their reservation. When I was a companion on my wifes account, she had to book my companion and it showed up as a separate confirmation number. We then had to go in and add that number in. If it didn't when I printed my boarding pass, I had to go to customer service to get it added otherwise they wouldn't let me in thru precheck.
