Based on my connection experience when I was not based in Houston, I just sucked it up and went to the dedicated non-Precheck line. Then you don't need to navigate to the Subway tram and the regular line empties closer to the Polaris lounge. There is a website which shares processing times. One time I took the detour was during year-end holidays when I could visibly see a huge backup, but that was when E was open. Sometimes chasing those few minutes does nothing.
