This was news to me. Of course, it was Sunday at 11pm so I could not call speak to the correct person at Hertz as they were closed. I was floored, as I have been a great paying customer for over thirty years. I got hold of the correct dept the next day and paid the owed amount. They removed the suspension, and I was so floored about the service, that I closed my account, gave up all the points and the status, and moved to Avis.
So, you've been loyal to Hertz for 33-years. You received a charge from a company other than Hertz. You are upset that you couldn't speak to someone from Hertz at 11pm on a Sunday. You got the issue resolved by paying the toll the following day. And then you state you are leaving Hertz.
Something is not connecting here. Logic is not making sense to me. Either way, enjoy Avis.
To remedy this in the future, carry a foil bag or a sheet of tin foil. When you get in the vehicle, take out the transponder, wrap it in foil, and put it back in the carrier. Now there are no more accidental charges.
Funny story...when I moved to NY. I had 4 transponders. All four were charged at every booth from Chicago to NYC. I had the one mounted in the vehicle I was driving. I had the remaining 3 on the floor of the vehicle in tow. I remembered to take the one off the windshield in the one that was in tow, but didn't think they would trigger on the floor. Only 2 of the charges could be removed. Lesson learned.
