I personally never split a PNR when requesting SWU upgrades, especially not if the flight is still weeks away. This is where EF really comes in handy, you can monitor C space and set an alert, if AA were to release just one seat you can call in and try to grab it (if you're ok to split).
Oh for sure. I have EF e-mail alerts setup and have the EF Website open and auto-refreshing at the bottom corner of my screen using a combination of chrome extensions! So I'm watching it like a hawk. Just want the reservation to be best setup if it happens to clear when I'm not watching-- Cabin is about 60% booked.
