I am more concerned however, that safety videos are a too-cute-by-half attempt to satisfy government regulatory requirements while trying to leave the impression that nothing bad is likely to happen even though the video is telling the pax what to do when something bad happens.

Some content is too vague absent the underlying context for the provided instruction. Telling the pax to "inflate the life vest as you leave the plane" is not equivalent to telling the pax that inflating the life vest before leaving the plane could pose serious safety risks for the pax.
