Tried LHR-KIX in December for a week and LH Group were coming up to £600 and BA and oneworld are comparable but AF-KL/ KE are over £1k.

Same goes with exUK to Europe for the easter.

We didn't have this problem last year?

well I see that there is a lot of availability from London to Osaka for around 800 GBP which is an average price imho. For example this one :Link to Google Flights
But you could consider waiting a bit to see if prices are getting lower and order the ticket around May.
