I am generally a big fan of preclearance in Dublin, but it seems to me that the process would be cleaner if security were better coordinated between Irish and American authorities. As I understand it, preclearance is designed to mirror the arrival experience at an American airport--and I'm unaware of any American airport that includes a security screening on arrival.
There could be a secondary issue here as well though. For much of last year, departing from Dublin was frequently a nightmare. Last May, I arrived at Dublin four hours early but just barely made it through Irish and American security in time for my flight. Screening lines extended from the checkpoint, out into the departure hall, down the stairs, out the entrance door to the airport, and into the parking garage. Several months after my trip, I continued seeing news stories about similar problems at the airport.
I don't know if that's continued, but I rarely find DUB to be anywhere near as efficient as other European airports in processing passengers I agree with other posters that GE generally works as efficiently at Dublin as it does with international arrivals into the US.
And it is really nice on arrival in the US to come off the plane just as if you were arriving on a domestic flight.
