Preclearance has its pluses, but it also has its minuses. I get it for flights from places like Canada where there's lots of paasenger traffic. However IMO it's not great for really anywhere else.
The other thing about Canada (and theoretically Mexico) is that it allows for non-stop flights to airports without FIS facilities, say LGA or PBI. Much easier to put inspection in a half dozen or so Canadian airports.
But yeah I agree it's pretty annoying elsewhere, including DUB. But I guess the good news there is that if you aren't flying business class you can still buy into the 51st & Green lounge since DL doesn't care about providing lounge benefits to STE+ who aren't flying in J.
