I have GE too, in the MIA case I was travelling with someone who didn't have it, unfortunately. I think we understand each other, I was just saying it exists because it's better for most. Unfortunately you can't opt-out, other than find a different routing.
Personally I don't mind it too much as it provides more certainty on arrival, but I wouldn't say I prefer it either.
Is there a reason that GE didn't help you in DUB? I went through DUB with GE but it was several years ago, I don't remember how it is set up.
