As long as we can meet and spend time during the flight, then should be absolutely no issue, but it's a 9 1/2 hours flight and the first is quite sealed from what I have seen previously and no bar/lounge area. So unless I can get back my Qcredit for the upgrade, we'll just keep it as it is, with a veeery small hope of a free upgrade.
DOH-SYD is the flight im on, the a380 and the bar/lounge is a great place to meetup, sadly you wont have that options on the CX planes, but with some luck you might get your upgrade.

Why not asking to upgrade with your avios at airport check-in ? If there’s a seat available in F and enough catering they will happily upgrade you.
Ill be doing that personally.. my flight currently has 2 spare seats in first.
