I actually have the same issue as you, with my wife and i split between first/business... we are on the a380, so we can "hang out" at the bar etc so not too bad, we are also hoping to upgrade too, but also we are fine with one us enjoying the extra perks of first whilst the other slums in it J :-)
I guess it's the flight to BKK, right? As long as we can meet and spend time during the flight, then should be absolutely no issue, but it's a 9 1/2 hours flight and the first is quite sealed from what I have seen previously and no bar/lounge area. So unless I can get back my Qcredit for the upgrade, we'll just keep it as it is, with a veeery small hope of a free upgrade.
