There is a glut of options in Doha and actually one we been enjoying recently is Royal Meridian partly because its got an excellent hard product but also the location is brilliant attached to Vendome mall and near Al Maha island...
I stayed at the original St. Regis years ago and found it to be quite nice, and remember having a large one-bedroom suite during my stay; their Friday brunch was a very decadent affair, I recall.

Agree re the flooded hotel supply in Doha - Marriott has dominated the Qatar market with its different flags and options, although Hilton seems to be doing quite well plastering its name throughout. On the mention of LRM and your visits, do they offer a lounge or a lounge-like alternative? The hotel's website mentions that the Vendôme Rooms offer complimentary beverages and special beverages between 6 and 8 PM in the Drawing Room, and I'm curious as to what's offered and how. I've long given up on Marriott, but even though I've been treated fairly well by the Hyatt properties I've turned to in Qatar, the Marriott ones are just far more convenient in location and offerings, and have me tempted...
