Depends on how far out the flights are. CX is canceling and instating flights pretty regularly. So, it could very well be, just 1-2 months before departure, suitable CX availability shows up.
I had CX flights in April/May "canceled" and auto-rebooked into something impossible (IE departure from HKG before arrival in HKG). Contacting the desk gave zero options, so I left this open. Contacting the desk 1-2 months later gave availability with a one-day shift for both outbound and inbound. My impression is, IF I waited longer, it could be, some more CX flights would have popped up......
seems the situation is volatile, but my friends flight is this week so it’s pretty much urgent. If we learned something during the pandemic, it’s that waiting until you really need to act is the best strategy.
Unfortunately also that flying CX is not very reliable, not because of the airline itself which is not at fault but rather the CCP and it’s total lack of grasp of the pandemic situation.
