The Essex House has lovely staff and I'd staff there (if they were not over sold).
This hotel is newly renovated and the lobby looks quite nice, too bad they didn't spend time with the staff in retraining.
Yes, there's always been quite a bit of negative buzz on this forum about the NY Sheraton (as well as some positive). Anyhow, largely for that reason, I've always avoided it. Maybe someday, if they have a superduper special rate, I'll try it. But since I've been lucky at digging up cheap rates at other NYC hotels (like the Russell, the Westin Times Square, etc.), and/or have redeemed Free Weekend Nights (or once upon a time, Cash and Points stays) at other good Starwoods there, I've never felt compelled to stay at the NYC Sheraton.
Since the same special rate plan may be bookable at OTHER NYC Starwoods, it's still worth looking into! @:-)
