Hotel Indigo Larnaca
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond Ambassador
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a 1 Queen Standard, received the same. Hotel was fully booked the night I stayed and the next day as well, so I guess there was no chance of any upgrade anyway.
How are the rooms?
Great, no complaints. Don't really get a view, but it's not by the beach-side in Larnaca so yeah. It's also very new.
How is the exec. lounge?
NA.
Of note though is that breakfast here (in this hotel) is a la carte, and not buffet-style.
What was good and what was bad?
GOOD:
1) Location is great for getting to the airport and other parts of Cyprus. It is also quite central in Larnaca, but not right smack where the slightly more kitschy/commercialised things are, even though those are a few minutes away. Bus 425 (which runs every 20 minutes) stops ~50m down the road from the hotel, and it's about a 5 minute walk from Finikoudes Beach, where you can also get to buses to other cities. This in itself gave me enough time to (re-)visit Nicosia and get to the airport in time for my flight.
2) Service - I found the three concierges I dealt with very friendly, and the staff in the restaurant are great as well. Interestingly I got all three benefits afforded to Diamond whilst checking-in: a welcome drink, breakfast, and my serve of points. I don't think any other IHG hotel has done this before.
3) Size - It's very small, like, there are only 40 rooms in this hotel, so service becomes very personable.
4) Amenities - these are provided in your bathroom without asking - not entirely eco-conscious, but quite welcome personally to have it available nonetheless.
5) Age - it's new. Like, two years old but looks very new still.
NEUTRAL
1) Design of bathroom - water will leak out of the shower onto the rest of your bathroom because of how it is constructed (there is no edge/dropdown that keeps the water in the shower, and the shower doors are defenceless against this) - meh.
2) Cleanliness - mostly spotless, and probably being a bit nitpicky here, but it seems like they couldn't reach the water stains on the other side of the bathroom glass, which sits near to the washbasin.
BAD:
1) Service knowledge - I found that I was given incorrect information by the concierges, who I believe should know better. One told me that Solomou Square was the first stop on the Intercity Bus to Nicosia (it's the last), and one told me that bus 425 only leaves from the road along the Finikoudes beachfront where I took the Intercity Bus - this is also wrong since someone got on where I was sure I could get on. A bit of polishing is needed in this regard.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I paid a bit much (~169 EUR) but it was literally 2 days before arrival, and I learnt half of the floors were closed so they were operating only 20 rooms. I will return, and actually use that as my base if I'm exploring Larnaca/Nicosia/Ayia Napa/maybe Limassol. Cyprus is always one place I'm a bit apprehensive, only because getting into Nicosia via public forms of transport is so bad (the Kapnos shuttle stops you about a 40 minute walk outside the main bits of the city), and my mode of travelling is to eschew taxis/private transportation unless they're more than reliable enough (like Uber in Bucharest). This Hotel Indigo might be the reason I'd be back in Cyprus more regularly.
