It’s helpful in the sense that it lets you know not to trust what your concierge does. But without knowing what the proposed resolution was, it's no help in determining whether or not it's a better strategy to proactively confirm with the hotel in advance.
In practice, how many possible solutions could have even been proposed:
- Compensation in the form of points
- Opened up space at another hotel
