It's not specifically Alaska Airlines though. Singapore Airlines have chosen to work with partner airlines - presumably because there is mutual benefit in doing so. They advertise those partners as ones on which you can earn and redeem miles, yet it is unnecessarily complicated for both their customers and staff to do so.
My frustration in this case comes partly from the fact that we never wanted or planned to redeem on Alaska or any other partner. We were forced to do so to avoid losing miles by SQ's expiry rules, unfair Covid extension policy which favoured those who had miles expiring at the start of the pandemic over those that had only just earned them, and no leeway in the event that they cancelled flights (twice in my case, both of which were booked a year ahead).
Most flyers probably benefit from staying with their home programs instead of venturing out to some exotic programs they read on some blogs......
To someone who has been a frequent flyer across several airlines over 20 years that feels a little condescending - and certainly not true in this case.
