I didn't realize my GE was expiring until I came into the country in early November and the machine told me my membership had expired. I subsequently found a regular monthly email over the preceding year reminding me it was about to expire--but the messages had all bypassed my inbox and I'd missed them. So I reapplied two weeks after expiration. Every time I've flown since, I've been annoyed about this. Mainly annoyed at not having TSA pre; I've come back into the country three times with no queues at immigration.
