Looking for a 2-night stay in an onsen ryokan (private, in-room onsen) in August on our way from Kyoto to Tokyo. Happy to travel for about 3 hours. If we go with Hakone, is there a clear winner between ginyu and yamanochaya?
Asaba currently shows no availability for Aug 2023 - perhaps they haven't opened the schedule yet? Or maybe they are already sold out.
I don't think there's a clear winner and I haven't been to Ginyu, but I'll say that the meal we had at Yamanochaya was arguably the best meal of our entire 2-week trip*. Especially with the extra sashimi add-on. So if you care about food, I can whole-heartedly recommend. It's probably a bit more traditional/rustic (in a good way) than Ginyu, FWIW.
*Okay maybe that was actually the A5 Wagyu at Boruta, but you get the idea
