Just as a data point to reinforce what the others said, I have an award reservation coming up UA-BR-BR-TG. When I log in on Thai's website, the United flight doesn't show up. Typically it only cares about the preceding carrier.
This is consistent with my experience as a Reservations Sales Representative (RSR) at UA SFORR in 1985-87. We would only see the other airline (OA) segments immediately before and after our UA flights, when booked through an OA reservation system.
