I've done this multiple times with other AS partners, and I currently have a flight booked where the last leg ends not in Hawaii but another continental US city, so you clearly can have a long stopover somewhere in the US with a JAL flight. However, when I called support, they weren't able to change that last segment to HNL because it's not allowed. They spent some time trying to figure it out. Is that true or a HUCA situation? FWIW, the agent even confirmed there's E fares available on the days we tried, so it's not related to lack of availability either.
It is not currently bookable online. I seem to recall someone posting about this within the last month or two. AS has removed the ability to book an onward flight to Hawaii after a stopover in the US mainland when arriving on JAL flight. You can still do it with AA. You can still have a stopover on JAL and continue to the the lower 48 or Alaska. I checked this with some multi-city award searches. It is not the length of the stopover that is the problem, it is the new JL (to mainland) - stopover - Hawaii restriction. AA from TYO - no problem.

AS may have changed the rules, or it could be another AS IT blunder, although I would lean to a no notice devaluation unpublished rule change.
