Premium economy: pleasant again?

For the last two decades I have been flying EVA's premium economy cabin. But my last flight in 2020 was such a disaster that I ended up opting for alternatives. The chairs were tired, I could even feel a metal bar through the wafer-thin seat cushion. In recent years, it seems a LOT of other airlines have jumped on the bandwagon. In the Asia-Europe route group, this seems to be done with 'recliner seats' (such as EVA) that are sometimes in the economy cabin and sometimes their own OR through 'shell seats' favored by airlines such as Air France and the Lufthansa++ group of airlines.

Preparing for a trip this upcoming summer, Premium Economy is coming back to the Amsterdam route and it seems they've outfitted the aging fleet with new seats to carry them over a bit longer (one assumes while they wait for the 787s to be delivered).

Have cabins been restored to their formal comfort levels? Or has the world now gone by and has EVA failed to keep up?
Very curious what your recent experience has been.
