While I do agree price is a huge factor, it also depends on how much you value time and convenience. When I was in my 20s, price is all that mattered. Now that I have young kids, I would rather pay for convenience via direct flight or use my AC rewards to upgrade, WS dollars don't offer much let alone the companion voucher. Also not sure how much cheaper WS is connecting via YYC compared to other airlines connecting via YYZ.

I think Japan will be a true test so lets see how that route plays out over the next few years.
