$402 is the Coach fare. The upgrade is 8K miles. If the upgrade doesn't clear, you get the miles back.
My choices are pay 40k miles x 2 to book Premium Plus directly or (what I'd prefer--) to be able to use my travel credit + 8k miles for the upgrade. Trying to get a sense of how likely/unlikely it would be to actually get the upgrade though with the economy fare + extra miles for the upgrade.
