They can do more than one rotation with only a few checks in between, so it would be an inefficient use to have that long a break on every turn. But in the initial familiarisation period it might make sense.

It is possible that there is enough commonality between A350-900 and A350-1000 that JAL thinks there is no need for crew familiarization period. If I remember correctly, JAL 787 inaugural flight was NRT-BOS without any crew familiarization period.
