So AA was apparently able to move us to JL 5 on Apr 8. The thing looks a little fuzzy though as the JAL record locator has disappeared and when I use the former JAL record locator on the JAL app, I see the fglight, can select seat but its written in big red: "purchase deadline apr 7" so doesnt seem it has been 'paid for'

Same here on the return. Easier from HND but Ill take the additional 40mins of travel (and 20k JPY) vs. having to deal another 2 hours when things might not work well in the end.
