Unfortunately this is a fairly common issue (and will become increasingly so) trying to use US issued cards for online transactions in Africa. The US cards do not support the global standard 2FA required by most card processors nowadays. Airlink has a manual workaround with alternate processors, but many (most?) others will simply decline the transaction. Of the US card issuers, Barclays is the one that seems to work fine with Airlink's payment processor (the same guys do the processing for Kenya Airways and a number of other African airlines), but the bigger players like Chase, Citi, etc.. do not support the global standard 2FA.
