I'm sure that newspaper typesetters felt the same way that the author does. But no amount of whinging is going to stop the evolution of technology and automation.
The only thing that I think could stem it are lawyers. Think about Napster when it first came out: it was the end of creativity in the music industry because music was no longer monetizable. But then the lawyers got involved and suddenly music was monetizable but in a different way.
IF (big if) AI is plagiarizing vs. 'researching' then the lawyers could step in again and save the copywriting industry. But, then, current human content creators rip off content all the time - sometimes with a 'ht' but more often not. They call is 'research.' So could AI.
It's a tough and scary time to be a copywriter. But human editors will always be needed.
And, while it's a great time to be a publisher, who knows how long it will be until AI disrupts the publishers. After all, if AI can create articles about points and miles for publishers, it can do the same for consumers. And at that point why would a consumer bother to read the middle-man when he or she can go straight to the AI with a question or topic.
Interesting times we live in!
