They were never loaded into the schedule for 2023, although the YYZ and YVR flights were, but deleted about a month or so ago. I'm assuming they've had a significant number of enquiries, or perhaps some political pushing in Nova Scotia, leading to this announcement. If nothing else, it gets the "bad news" out of the way so that the formal Summer 2023 announcement can be all "good news".
Westjet issued a press release at the beginning of December listing their Europe & Asia routes. YHZ/YYZ/YVR were not part of it. I'm not really sure why they felt the need for a separate announcement.
