Widebodies will be the last to get ViaSat because currently ViaSat doesn’t have the overwater capacity that GoGo does and won’t until the new global ViaSat 3 satellite is up and running (scheduled for launch from the Kennedy Space Center on March 24th). The current ViaSat 2 satellite only has coverage for the continental North America & Europe (+ the Atlantic crossing) but has no coverage over the Pacific, Asia, or South America. Since DL has switched to the A321neo for most West Coast-Hawaii flights, the ViaSat “free” WiFi does not work for 90% of the flight so DL WiFi to Hawaii is currently only available on the widebodies since they still have GoGo.
Very informative! Thanks. I didn't know you can sign into your skymiles account when purchasing Wi-Fi for a discount. I'd pay $5 but that's where I draw the line.
