Be lucky WiFi was even available on the entire flight. Widebodies will be the last to get ViaSat because currently ViaSat doesn’t have the overwater capacity that GoGo does and won’t until the new global ViaSat 3 satellite is up and running (scheduled for launch from the Kennedy Space Center on March 24th). The current ViaSat 2 satellite only has coverage for the continental North America & Europe (+ the Atlantic crossing) but has no coverage over the Pacific, Asia, or South America. Since DL has switched to the A321neo for most West Coast-Hawaii flights, the ViaSat “free” WiFi does not work for 90% of the flight so DL WiFi to Hawaii is currently only available on the widebodies since they still have GoGo.
