Casa Da Companhia Vignette Collection Porto - Master Thread

I can't quite believe I am posting about this property before nicolas75 but here goes...

I spent a really pleasant 3 nights at this hotel over the weekend. The hotel is beautiful and superbly located. However, the service was the best part of the stay. I booked a King Premium on advance rate and was upgraded to a Suite with Cathedral View.

Reception is up one floor from the entrance level - I was checked in by the front office manager who offered me a glass of port and cookies whilst checking in. She then took me on a brief tour of the hotel, explaining the history, opening hours of the spa, etc and eventually to my room. I saw her a number of times throughout my stay and she always remembered my name.

There are two buildings, the original 16th century building which houses the bar, restaurant, lobby, reception and some rooms and then a more modern building behind which is connected on the 2nd floor and has 7 floors. Spa/fitness are on the 2nd floor, outdoor pool on the 3rd.

The room was really nicely furnished. Entry area with mini bar, coffee machine, kettle and then a couple of steps up to the main bedroom area. The bathroom was very open plan but had a shower and toilet in separate rooms (much like some W properties). There was also a very large walk-in wardrobe. Air conditioning and wifi both worked well, and TV had a reasonable selection of channels, along with Chromecast and some hotel information, e.g. restaurant menu. There were two small balconies which had great views across the rooftops of Porto (although I had to sign a disclaimer in order to access the balcony). Turn down service each evening closed blinds and ensured towels were clean and tea/coffee was stocked.

Breakfast seems to be included in rates - there's no mention of it when booking and I was told it was included (and not welcome gift). Breakfast was very good - mainly buffet but drinks and a choice of cooked egg dishes were provided by the very attentive servers. Mimosas were available on the buffet and someone was there to help pour. I chose a drink as the welcome gift and it was a glass of house wine, worth €6. Food in the evening was in the bar area and really superb - I had the crab bites and a sous vide pork dish; both beautifully presented and not ridiculously priced for what they were. I did hear someone complaining that the food took a long while to come but I'd personally rather wait for good quality food.

The hotel also had a port ceremony one evening where the chef showed how to make chocolate truffles and the port was opened with a heated iron by the F&B manager - a really pleasant way to spend an hour.

Finally, the indoor pool was beautifully done and I enjoyed using this once it got dark and before dinner.

Highly recommended - will definitely return.
