The night prior to my stay I was upgraded to a grand suite king. They were not selling suites weeks before my arrival so that was a surprise. Checked in around 230 and the room wasn’t ready. Went to the lounge and around 315 they found me and offered me another room to wait in. Didn’t want to dirty up another room while I waited but they insisted. Around 4 the room was ready. Very nice suite overlooking the pool and beach.

Breakfast is in the lounge and has a decent spread Happy hour from 530-7. Food and self serve beer and wine with drinks like caipirinhas on request. Great service.

this place seems popular with Brazilian families but everyone seemed to have enough of a grasp of English. Checkin and booking spa services and ordering food was no issue.

Definitely enjoyed it here. Don’t mind the Uber ride into the city. It’s just nice to come back here at the end of the day where things are a bit calmer.

If I might ask, what room did you originally book that you were upgraded to the Grand Suite? I'll be visiting here in April and I've booked an Ocean Front king room. I called Hyatt about applying a Suite upgrade to my reservation and the agent told me I'd probably not be happy with the suite if the ocean view is more important to me. So I decided not to use the upgrade but now I'm wondering if they are going to proactively 'upgrade' me before my arrival to a suite with a view of the air conditioners/parking lot.

I notice there are ocean front suites as well, but I think it's safe to say that that upgrade path won't be an option from the room I've booked. Do you think it would be necessary to contact Hyatt or the hotel to request that I NOT be upgraded in this case?
