I guess it depends on perspective in a way. How you see a situation very much depends on the actual viewpoint, at that time and place and ambience rather than a written down transcript which can be way different in type. Things said or experienced can scar in the moment rarely translate in law or transcript. So it's quite possible the OP's experience may not translate as well as it could though no fault of his own when written down.

I have had the inverse of this a couple of times. I've been lucky enough to have been treated (shall we say, better than the standard) and one other guest (not so long ago) made a huge compliant to the GM as he had not had the same . It was in a lounge and in a flagship ... in fact a couple of times this has occurred. The guy in question serving on was made to feel dreadful even though he was just being kind.

Was the guy in question being treated badly or was he uncomfortable with what he perceived me to be received treatment wise? I suspect he was irked as he perceived me getting better than him. I was. And it landed at a GM's feet. The GM although pandered to the guy in question, didn't give a rats. He knew the score very well.

And I've seen this on-board as well .... day to day traveller feeling less important than an FF. I've actually been involved in a formal complaint and had to make statement in that circumstance for a BA FA. Painful but with a little help, they got the fair hearing they deserved.

And in fairness I remember once the same but with me being the guy with a quivering lip that I'd been overlooked. I'll name it .... was at IC Istanbul breakfast. I was being treated fairly well and given 'meh' level RA hand holding .... until this guy walked in and suddenly I didn't exist .... much to the amusement of my wife. In fact no-one existed. I think from memory he was some conductor or actor type that I didn't recognise ... but he wore Loro Piana as opposed to my somewhat lower level brand

IC Madrid has always treated me exceptionally well. However I can very well understand how some could interperate the delivered service of individuals there as dismissive, aloof and unimportant. And I have to confess to having seen that at other hotels in Spain .... indeed the old IC Princess Sofia In Barcelona, attitudes could be not dissimilar. I always read it as a certain regional personality trait and linguistic format that 'some' have .... far from all.

Same again in IC Estoril a while after it opened. We (and everyone else that we could see) was being treated very well at breakfast. That did not stop this large guy with what I would only describe as an 'Essex' accent erupting at the F&B manager with every expletive known to man and how he was going to '******* destroy him' on Trip adviser. He made a point that everyone heard him. Something said in a certain way just triggered this guy into total meltdown. And indeed he did get the attention and special handling that he clearly desired.

That's a bit of a step from the OP's original issue and it's not to under estimate that. But the angle of view can definitely be seen differently and not always convey the feeling and impact.
