Breaking a journey overnight in London on an ex-EU

I’ve been looking to book an ex-EU trip MAD-LHR-overnight-LHR-JNB. In the past I have booked such an itinerary ensuring the night stop in London (ie at home) is sub-24 hours and I have always been able to select flights that give the same price as if one were making a same day connection. On this occasion ba.com will only show flights that make the connection greater than 24 hours, thus more expensive and therefore negating the point of flying to the EU in the first place.

I’ve done lots of these over the years with minimum of fuss in making the booking so I am wondering whether something has changed. Is it just BA’s IT, am I too close to departure date (looking to leave in three weeks time), could I phone up and ask the call centre to price up the itinerary for me?

I’m a bit stumped and, being hopeless with IT, I am sure there is something simple I have overlooked. If any of you who are so much more experienced have any advice I should be grateful to receive it.
