I'm not aware of any such policy, it just seems polite to be somewhat clandestine about it for some reason. Probably just me. Though I could see them asking not to bring a glass wine/beer/etc. bottle to the pool area. Even though they're difficult to break, it wouldn't be good if it were to happen.
